In Zambia more than half of the population live in rural areas. With most schools located in larger cities, many children have no access to education at all. But, with your help Raise a Smile is working to change this!

The "Muzanga Education Project" will begin in September 2013. A sturdy 4x4 vehicle will be transformed into a mobile school, taking education to rural communities. Simple, but cost efficient and effective!

As well as key school subjects such as reading, writing and arithmetic, regular special workshops will be held on important issues including HIV/AIDS prevention, women's rights, children's rights, safe water and sanitation, teenage pregnancy and conservation. A key aim of the project is to ensure sustainability, which will be achieved by working with local staff and by training community members to continue education in the long term.

"Muzanga" means "friend" in the local language, and we need friends like you to get the "Muzanga Education Project" up and running. With your help, we can take education to rural communities in Zambia!

If you met Sarah today you would find an enthusiastic and curious teenager who dreams of attending school.

She lives in a small village of less than 500 people and sleeps in a mud brick house with her mum, 2 sisters and 3 brothers. She likes to sing, catch insects and explore. In her village 1 in 6 people are infected with HIV, illiteracy is the norm, and at the age of 14 Sarah has never set foot in a school. Sarah's mum is unable to afford the fees, and even if she could, the nearest school is more than 25 kilometers away.

With your help, children like Sarah will finally be able to learn how to read, to find out what her rights are, to learn how AIDS is spread and how to prevent it, to provide a living for herself and to ensure that for her children, attending school is more than just a dream...
