02.02.09 Grade 7 Exams

We have just received a message from Marco to say that all 7th grade students have passed their final exams and are now able to go to secondary school! This is a remarkable achievement especially when you consider that in Zambia normally only about 60% of pupils pass these exams. The school fees for secondary school are funded through donations. Congratulations!

15.12.08 Sale at Stein High School

With the help of the year 7 students of Stein High School, Raise a Smile hosted a sale of handcrafted products made by Zambia. The sale included stone and wooden animal figures of elephants, rhinos, hopps and lions, as well as cards, fabrics, etc. The students also made cakes to sell. The sale raised a total of €480 which was sent to Magazine Community School. The Children of Magazine Community School sent a thank you letter to Stein High School.

10.12.08 Water in Magazine!

Marco has managed to get a tap attached to the water mains on the school grounds. Previously he had tried to dig a bore hole, but after drilling to a depth of over 90 meters and still finding no water the idea was abandoned. This new tap improves the water situation at the school dramatically. The teachers won’t have to spend hours waiting at the water kiosk to pay for buckets of water, without even any certainty of there being any water left by the time the front of the queue is reached.
